Hi! I'm Purr Mewsik.

You can call me Purr.

BACKGROUND

I live in the Indianapolis area, but I'm originally from Illinois. I love the Midwest!

I started singing and making up song lyrics when I was very young.

I played percussion and sang in high school choirs, honor's choir, women's choir, community choir, and All-State Choir. I'm a second soprano or Soprano II (mezzo-soprano).

I studied English, creative writing, and art history in college and love reading, writing, art, and design.

WHY I'M A MUSIC ARTIST

I re-prioritized my life after the pandemic. I started recording myself on karaoke apps and making my own lyrics over beats on music apps. I enjoyed it so much that I didn't want to stop and decided to go for it professionally.

My dad was also a talented singer and multi-instrumentalist. He sang all the time and played the trumpet, saxophone, banjo, and piano. He passed away when I was 16. Music makes me feel connected to him.

WHY I SING R&B, LOFI & LOUNGE

I grew up listening to many genres including oldies, Motown, pop, rock, jazz, dance, etc. My favorite genres have always been R&B and hip hop/rap. I'm influenced by the smooth and jazzy vocals from Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill, Brandy, Janet Jackson, Erykah Badu, etc. and the vibey female singers of the 90s and 2000s. My biggest current influences are Drake (my #1 fave), Summer Walker, Jhené Aiko, Kehlani, Ella Mai, Alina Baraz, The Weeknd, SZA, and H.E.R.

I started listening to chill and lofi music in college and wanted to challenge myself to sing on those beats too. I love writing lyrics to lofi beats.

MUSIC GOALS

I'm very independent and am working on my own music production. I plan to release singles throughout the year. I definitely love R&B and lofi hip hop, but expect some new genres from me too! Sky's the limit when I'm having fun.

WHY THE NAME PURR MEWSIK?

I thought of it one day when I was creating a username on a karaoke app. I thought of Purr and I like using "mew" in the word "music." When I put them together as Purr Mewsik, I loved it! I also have a smooth voice, so the word "Purr" goes along with that.
